July 2 Wednesday: Footloose Pro Night
Meeting Time: 7:30 PM
Footloose in Mammoth.
Our sponsors and friends at Footloose have invited us for a Pro Night at the shop. They are offering 10% off bikes that night and 20% off everything else to do with the bike. We will have beverages and light refreshments as well as a couple of movies to watch as the evening slides by. A highly social occasion and a chance also to get some technical help from the gang. Jeff will have the slide show of the Pamper Pedal and a couple of the committee will have a session on how to host a ride for those who would like to help the club with a weekend event. Come down and hang out for bit. See you there.
July 12 2008: June Lake Triathlon
Eastside Velo works in close cooperation with the High Sierra Tri Club as part of Mammoth Trails. Rita Klabacha is recruiting volunteers to help this event continue its climb as one of the best in the state. It is certainly the most scenic and it’s the highest, for sure. Here is a note from Rita explaining what she needs:
We are going to need people for tasks such as:
Pre-event:
-Soliciting for raffle prizes (100% of proceeds from the raffle go to Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra) selling raffle tickets
-Posting signs in the June lake area about 1-week out, informing of event and road closures
-Stuffing goody bags etc... probably will happen in Mammoth.
Event Day (Saturday, July 12th, June Lake at the OH! Ridge Campground)
-Aid stations - right now mostly need help out on the bike course (June Lake loop)
-Bike course traffic control: holding cars from turning onto course if cyclists are coming and warning cyclists of sharp turns, etc.
Venue traffic/parking control
-Motorcyclists for bike course control and sweep: inform (via radio) of location of lead cyclists; follow-in of last cyclists; safety communication in event of problem on course
-Kayakers for swim course safety
-I need one person who can drive a pontoon boat for non-emergency swimmer pick-up/transport
-Medical personnel - we'd love to have at least one such person at each of our run aid stations (6) who could bring a first aid kit, has CPR, etc.
-People to help with finish line activities: hand out finisher's medals and help with awards ceremony
-Cleanup at end of race day

Recent Rides: Crowley/Wild Rose and Bridgeport
Shawna and Jim Pettigrew's ride attracted approximately 60 riders on June 1st for a trip out to Wild Rose Summit followed by a very tasty BBQ at their home. First Class!
June 15 saw a record group of 60 riders head north to Bridgeport to make it up Sweetwater Summit and to Twin Lakes. The refreshment stop was new this year, based at the park in Bridgeport itself. Lynette and Jon Armstrong hosted the event. The Bouchers and Fosters celebrated their wedding anniversaries on the day. Many riders dined at the Whoa Nellie Deli on the way home.
Double Century Riders
Planet Ultra hosted a double century ride (yes, you read that right: 200 miles in one sitting) in our area in late May and several ESV club members took part, some for the first time.
Jerry Oser took the honors of being the first rider home, looking fresh and ready for more. Dave DeVries added to his tally of doubles and he now rightfully wears a California Triple Crown jersey, signifying he has completed 3 doubles in 12 months. Jim Pettigrew made the distance for the first time as did Jody Aas, Nancy Bristow and Rita Klabacha. Steve Schmunk added another double to his portfolio. Tim Vadheim worked the event providing support and gear. Tim has completed a dozen or so doubles and he, Dave and Jim are headed for an event in Southern California this weekend. Congratulations all!! We wish you well in your endurance quests!
There are plenty of events going on these days; a great chance to take part and also to assist others as they pursue their goals. It's all part of the active life we enjoy here in the Eastern Sierra.
See you on the trail.
