Sunday, October 12th: Keough’s Ride Join us for a great late season ride and put the stormy winds and cloud of Mammoth far behind. The Keough’s Ride and BBQ is on for Sunday October 12. We meet at Keoughs Hot Springs just south of Bishop at the far end of the parking lot at 9:30 to start riding at 10am. We usually ride out to Paradise Lodge and back for a 50 mile ride. Many riders go as far as Mill Pond, where the only feed station will be located this year, and turn around to be the first back to the scene of what has become a fantastic BBQ and hangout. Of course a hot swim is a possibility as well. We know that many of you have not ridden since the Fall Century, about a month ago. No worries. The route is forgiving, warm, and at low elevation so join us for a spin before you put the bike away for winter. Tom & Rosanne Higley and Sally Gaines will be our hosts. Please reply to Sally for this event as it really helps us with catering and providing a fantastic feed for you all. RSVP to Sally Gaines at salg@qnet.com. Saturday, October 25th: BIKES, BREWS and HOT TUBS There will be a casual club ride on Saturday, October 25th, weather permitting, starting at Benton Hot Springs. This ride is something different for Eastside Velo. It’s a chance to simply go for a group ride late in October, to stay for a BBQ and a soak afterward, or to possibly camp overnight as well. The ride will start at 10.30am and finish around 1.30pm, followed by a barbecue, beers and mandatory hot tub soaking. There will be a cost of $10.00 per person for all those using the hot tubs and/or camping. The campsites, including hot tubs, will be reserved for the club from 2pm on Saturday until 11.00am on Sunday. Those who wish to stay overnight will need to bring their own camping gear. The club will provide beverages. Each person will bring their own barbecue food; ice chests will be available at the start of the ride to leave food in. Once we know how many people are coming we will designate salads, starters and desserts alphabetically (similar to the Pie ride). People staying overnight will be responsible for their own breakfast food. The ride will be an out-and-back from the hot springs to Wildrose, which is approx. 25 miles including some climbing, or to the top of Waterson, a 40 mile ride. There will be a support station at the top of Wildrose. Please RSVP to Jan at: janhornby@schat.net by October 20th as we need to reserve enough campsites. We will notify you by e-mail on Friday the 24th if the event will be cancelled due to weather. If you do not feel like riding and would like to come out for the social afternoon and evening please also RSVP. Directions to Benton Hot Springs from Mammoth: South on 395 turn Left at the Green Church which is the Benton Crossing road, follow this to Hwy 120, turn right here toward Benton. The Hot Springs is about 7miles on the left. We will meet at the campground behind the Bed and Breakfast Inn. Call Scott and Jan Busby at 387-2807, or email janhornby@schat.net if you have any questions. Hope to see you there. |
